Melanesian youth in New Zealand are leading the way in the preservation of their culture.
Countries that make up Melanesia include Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea.
The Melanesian Festival Aotearoa was held in West Auckland on Saturday with young ones dominating the stage with traditional performances.
RNZ Pacific's Tiana Haxton attended the full-day celebration and spoke with several members of the community to learn what it means to be Melanesian in Aotearoa.
