New Zealand has been celebrating Samoan language week - the country's third most spoken language.
Several cities have been hosting community events and activities to promote the language.
According to the New Zealand census in 2018, over 100,000 people were able to hold a conversation in Samoan.
Despite the high number of speakers, there remains an underlying threat that it could become endangered if Samoans become complacent in maintaining their mother tongue.
The University of Auckland's Samoan lecturer Lemoa Henry Fesuluai spoke with Pacific Waves host Susana Suisuiki.
