Protecting school children from climate change was the main focus of a two day a consultation in Fiji this week.

Facilitated by 'Save the Children', participants from around the region came together to discuss the way forward, addressing climate resilience in education systems.

Over the past decade, natural disasters have caused disruptions to the education landscape.

Regional 'Safe Schools' lead John Lilo says Tropical Cyclone Harold in 2020 damaged hundreds of schools, affecting thousands of students.

He told RNZ Pacific's Tiana Haxton that this disaster has emphasized the crucial need for climate adaptation in schools.
