The head of a civil society organisation in Fiji says culture must evolve in order to tackle human trafficking.
Speaking at a forum in Suva to mark World Day Against Trafficking, Fiji Council of Social Services director Vani Catanasiga criticised the government for not grasping the severity of the issue.
Ms Catanasiga says while there is "some" aim to prevent human trafficking; the slow implementation of legislation signals a level of ignorance about how extensive the issue is.
RNZ Pacific's Coco Lance asked her what the main challenges were in getting the government to act.
