Papua New Guinea's deputy prime minister, John Rosso, says lack of police recruitment has contributed to violence in the country.

It comes as the latest outbreak of tribal fighting in Enga province leaves dozen dead after four days of clashes between opposing groups living near Porgera gold mine.

RNZ Pacific's PNG correspondent Scott Waide spoke with Mr Rosso about the broken criminal justice system and the need to recruit more police officers to handle ongoing violence.
