RNZ now on rova, TAHI launches content with two series + opportunities for rangatahi creatives

Released at 11:06 am on 15 February 2022

RNZ is pleased to announce that RNZ National, RNZ Concert, RNZ Pacific and new rangatahi platform TAHI are now available on MediaWorks’ streaming radio app rova.

RNZ Chief Executive and Editor-in-Chief Paul Thompson says that RNZ is committed to producing and broadcasting diverse and unique content across radio and digital platforms, and adding the four channels to rova is another step in making the services available wherever audiences are.

“It is very important that as the media consumption habits of New Zealanders continue to change, that we not only produce compelling content, but that we make it available to audiences where and when they want it. It’s exciting that rova is another option for current listeners, and that rova listeners will now have RNZ and TAHI streams available to them.”

“As fellow Kiwi content creators, we're excited to welcome RNZ's live streaming stations to rova.  We're proud of developing a platform specifically for New Zealanders and filling it with high quality local content, the likes of which RNZ is renowned for creating.” Richie Culph, Head of Digital Audio, MediaWorks.

Sharing content is not new to RNZ, with a radical sharing approach that has seen key news stories shared free of charge with 60 content partners across New Zealand. Mediaworks has also been including RNZ-credited stories in news bulletins across their stations since December 2021, and RNZ National played out rova’s NZ on Air funded podcast Aotearoa Hip Hop - The Music. The People. The History. over summer on Music 101.

To access the streams on rova, listeners should download the rova app and search for RNZ.

RNZ stations continue to be available on air, at rnz.co.nz, the RNZ app (RNZ National, RNZ Concert, RNZ Pacific and RNZ Parliament), and podcasts and show episodes are available on Apple, Spotify, iHeart and wherever you get your podcasts.

Twice the love on TAHI with two series on relationships out today, plus paid content creation opportunities for rangatahi

The TAHI music stream launched at TAHI.fm on 1 December, and today TAHI takes its next steps, launching the platform’s first two commissioned series The Elephant in the Bedroom and I GOT YOU, and announces two opportunities for rangatahi to create content for TAHI.

We Got You Covered invites musicians to send in a cover of a New Zealand song, with five chosen to go to an audience vote – the winner receives $1000, plus the opportunity to record their cover at an RNZ studio to be played on TAHI, and the other four finalists will received $300. TAHI Shorts invites creatives to pitch an idea for short video content under the theme Red, Orange, Green. Ten ideas will be commissioned to be made for TAHI, paying the content makers $1000. Read more and enter at TAHI.fm/shorts

RNZ Head of Content Megan Whelan says there’s been a clear message from young creatives that the best way to help them is work.

“These initiatives are a way for TAHI to provide some paid opportunities as well as create content from new voices to be shared alongside music and commissioned content from established creatives. We’re really excited to see what’s submitted, and we hope to hear from rangatahi from all around the motu.”
