King's Birthday Morning with Paddy

Journalist and broadcaster Paddy Gower will host King's Birthday Morning with Paddy on RNZ National from 8am to midday. The one-off programme will feature an upbeat mix of the curious and the compelling, with the top stories of the morning, prominent recipients of King’s Birthday Honours, lifestyle and human-interest feature interviews and Paddy’s music playlist. Best known as a television journalist, hosting radio will be a new experience for Gower.  

“I’m a long-time listener, first time announcer when it comes to RNZ and I’m really excited to have the chance to host this holiday weekend show. I just hope someone shows me which buttons to push.”

King’s Birthday programming will also feature long-running holiday programme Matinee Idle from midday to 5pm, with regular programmes returning on Tuesday 4 June.

Neil Finn live on Music 101

Music 101 will feature an exclusive live performance with Neil Finn on Saturday 1 June to celebrate the release of the new Crowded House album Gravity Stairs.

It will be an intimate performance and interview with Music 101 host Charlotte Ryan, recorded at Roundhead Studios.

The Eternal City live in concert

Rome, the Eternal City, has never sounded as spectacular as in Respighi’s exhilarating ‘Roman Trilogy’. Overflowing with excitement and cinematic grandeur this is a vast orchestral spectacle in every sense. Musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music will join Auckland Philharmonia to bring this monumental extravaganza to life, as conductor Giordano Bellincampi takes us back to the city where he was born.

Matariki at RNZ

RNZ will highlight Matariki on Friday 28 June with special programming for Matariki Dawn at Treble Cone and throughout the morning on RNZ National, with coverage of events around the motu in news broadcasts, on rnz.co.nz and social media. The Matariki Music Show returns from midday to 5pm.

RNZ takes you to the Aotearoa Music Awards!

Celebrate the top music and musicians in Aotearoa on Thursday 30 May, closing out Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa | New Zealand Music Month in style. RNZ Afternoons presenter Jesse Mulligan as well as Kara Rickard will be your hosts on the night.

Watch AMA live via the RNZ website, and RNZ Music’s YouTube and Facebook channels. Join us for the AMA Opening Ceremony from 6pm, when genre and Artisan awards will be presented. From 8:15pm, the AMA Showcase will feature the biggest artists of the year winning awards and performing live.

There will be full coverage of the Awards across rnz.co.nz; the RNZ Music and TAHI social media channels and on RNZ National.

The Sunday Sampler

RNZ National’s weekly music review show The Sampler has a new home (on Sunday afternoons following Culture 101) and is now titled The Sunday Sampler.

Host Tony Stamp is expanding the audio-rich programme to include feature interviews covering music and popular culture while continuing to introduce and assess an array of local and international releases. A condensed version of The Sampler, containing all of Tony’s insights and critiques, will continue to be broadcast on Tuesday evenings at 7pm.

From Wednesday 12 June you can catch the full video version of award-winning podcast The TAHI on YouTube.

With a new episode out every Tuesday and Thursday on podcast platforms and highlights on TAHI social media channels, the full video will be released the following day at 5pm, starting Wednesday 12 June.

The popular video series is back for series two! The Adventures of Piripi Kaiwaru AKA Phillip 2 illustrates the daily life of Piripi, but with one vital difference to other factual or reality series - it's narrated by his mother! series one was a glimpse into a rural Māori boy’s life with his quirky traits and hard case perspective, a kid who doesn’t follow the norm. Having looked after the family home and held down his first mahi after school, Piripi’s ready to face a new challenge and meet some cuzzies across the ditch, embarking on his OE, Outback Experience.

Here Now Podcast - Highlighting Refugee Month

To mark refugee month in June, RNZ’s award-winning podcast Here Now will highlight journeys of former refugees over a three-part special. Presenter and producer Kadambari Raghukumar will chat to refugees from different backgrounds who have emigrated to New Zealand. From looking at the resettlement process, to personal stories from families and individuals from Afghanistan and Democratic Republic of Congo.
