Update 23 September 2024

A previous version of this media release said that Kiritapu Allan was to feature on season two of It’s Personal with Anika Moa. This information has been removed as RNZ has made the decision not to run the episode following an editorial check.

Editorial checks occur across RNZ’s journalism and content, regardless of where it is published or broadcast. RNZ’s Editorial Policy applies not only to staff but to all contractors. We often make the decision to not publish material. In this instance, the appearance had been promoted already. We will be updating our publicity material.

While It’s Personal with Anika Moa is an entertainment, personality driven, interview show rather than news or current affairs, the topics covered in the interview included recent news events and they needed further context.

While highly respecting the right of individuals to express their opinion, we found that given the subject matter of the interview, the episode did not meet our Editorial Policy with regards to impartiality.

RNZ has a high level of credibility and trust among its audience, we will continue to guard this.

We remain very supportive of the podcast series and the stories and people it brings to audiences.

After a successful season one, popular musician and broadcaster Anika Moa is back for season two of her podcast It’s Personal with Anika Moa launching this Friday. Across nine episodes she speaks to notable people about life’s tough lessons and how they’ve coped with big challenges. It’s entertaining, it’s emotional, and above all – it’s personal.

The podcast sees Anika chatting with guests on topics and issues close to her heart. From Morgana O’Reilly dishing on White Lotus season three, to Ramon Te Wake illustrating the importance of telling transgender stories. Some other guests include wahine toa Miriama Kamo, and actor Jodie Rimmer who shares her well-earned wisdom of life on stage and chats about her new solo show Nicola Cheeseman is Back. This season will also bring some male perspectives including Jon Toogood who shares some personal experiences with Anika.

Moa says It’s Personal is a fearless and freeing way to examine humans and how life throws such hearty, hard and humbling experiences at you.

"I am enjoying my role of honest kōrero and getting to know such fabulous and creative mana tangata! I feel like Oprah but a Māori Oprah and not as rich or famous.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to see a different side to Anika Moa with a new line-up of guests. Released as an audio and video podcast on rnz.co.nz/anikaYouTube and on podcast platforms. Released weekly on Friday, episodes are also broadcast on RNZ National on Mondays at 7:30pm.
