Parliament Returns to Radio New Zealand National

Released at 12:24 pm on 4 February 2015

Three long-running radio programmes dissecting the day-to-day processes and activities of Parliament are returning to Radio New Zealand National after a break of several years.

A new agreement between Radio New Zealand and the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives will see the programmes, Today in Parliament, The Day in Parliament and The Week in Parliament broadcast in high rating slots. Radio broadcasts presented by Tom Frewen and Reesh Lyon will be supported by a regular multi-media blog on The Wireless, Radio New Zealand’s youth-focused website.

Today in Parliament will be broadcast on Parliament’s sitting days, in the 6-7pm hour of the Checkpoint programme. The first broadcast is scheduled for Tuesday 10th February.

A slightly longer summary of sitting day activity will be broadcast the following morning – The Day in Parliament will be scheduled for approximately 5:45am, just prior to the start of Radio New Zealand’s top-rating Morning Report.

A weekly summary, The Week in Parliament, can be heard following the 7:30am news headlines in Sunday Morning with Wallace Chapman.

Radio New Zealand’s youth-focused website www.thewireless.co.nz will feature a monthly multimedia blog from senior Radio New Zealand journalist Megan Whelan. Her aim will be to explain parliamentary processes and make them more understandable and accessible to all New Zealanders, particularly those more at home in the digital world.
