1:15 Doing 40 jobs at age 40

Five days before her birthday last year, Bec Fisher decided she wanted to try something new.

Not just a new hobby or a couple of exercise classes, the Aussie mum and teacher wanted to know what other opportunities were out there.

So she thought the best way to find her next passion was to do 40 jobs during her 40th year. You can check out her blog here

1:25 New Zealand metrologists prepare to redefine the kilogram

The kilogram is getting an overhaul.

'The Big K' is a lump of metal kept away under glass in Paris that has defined the measurement for more than a hundred years.

But the metal is finally showing its age so this World Metrology day will be its last. It's being fixed with the help of kiwi metrologists.

To tell us more about the change is one of those kiwis, Fleur Francois, director of New Zealand's national metrology institute, Measurement Standards Laboratory.

1:35 Celebrity chef Matty Matheson's new show

Celebrity chef Matty Matheson is known as somewhat of a bad boy in the food world - his TV shows average about 150 expletives per episode.

But his exuberant antics have earned him a massive following online, not to mention his recipes.

A former lover of whiskey and partying, a health scare at 29 changed his ways, but not his persona.

His show 'It's Suppertime!' is coming to Viceland.

2:10 Pip Adam on the "monstrous feminine" in literature

We're honoured to have our regular book critic, Pip Adam in,  because she won the Acorn Foundation Fiction Prize at the the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards for her 2017 novel The New Animals. So in honour of that we are giving the book away as our Short Story Club prize this week (see above).

Today Pip is talking about the 'monstrous feminine' - an idea that challenges the idea of women as victims, and shares some books that feature monstrous women characters:

Ponti by Sharlene Teo

Apple and Knife by Intan Paramaditha

Her body and other parties by Maria Carmen Machado

Tess by Kirsten McDougall

Baby by Annaleese Jochems

3:10 Lucy Jones: What to do about natural disasters

Every minute of every day, an earthquake happens somewhere in the world. There's no warning, and no way to prevent them. Dr Lucy Jones is a world renowned seismologist who doesn't just look at the science of tectonics but the human side of cataclysmic events.

Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis are going to happen, she says, but disasters don't have to if we will prepare. How we react before an after these events says a lot about us.  Her new book is called The Big Ones: How Natural Disasters Have Shaped Us (and What We Can Do About Them).
