Like a Virgin was Madonna's second studio album and both the lyrics and the music video for the title track openly played on her persona of a supremely confident and sexually independant woman. But Madonna herself wasn't a fan of the song at first saying she thought it was, quote: "really stupid and retarded". She had second thoughts though and managed to convince her producer not only to include it but to name the album after it, Like a Virgin.
