World Soils Day: Megan Balks

From Afternoons, 1:20 pm on 7 December 2016

On Monday, it was literally a celebration of the ground we walk on - and had nothing to do with the resignation of John Key.It was World Soils Day and has been created to highlight the importance of soil as critical component of the natural system and  respect it as being vital to the existence of the human population. The day is celebrated particularly by the global community of 60 000 soil scientists charged with responsibility of generating and communicating soil knowledge for the common good.Among those scientists is Waikato University's Dr Megan Balks who has written a book on the subject. It's called Celebrating Soils, discovering soils and landscapes.
