The Metservice has taken a bit of a lashing on social media for its newly-upgraded smartphone app.
Some say the new design is difficult to use and there are complaints about the amount of advertising featured.
Tech commentator Paul Brislen says he was happy to pay for the previous MetService app, as he used it a lot, but is less of a fan of the new, free version.
"They changed the app and said 'Oh, actually, we don't want to charge people for it anymore - instead we'll make money by sticking ads all over it'."
People who had paid for the previous app but were now receiving ads would be upset, he says.
"I have to say I tend to agree with the complaints. This is a bit of a dog's breakfast."
The metservice responded to the points raised in this blog http://blog.metservice.com/app-facts-for-jesse-mulligan
@MetService I deleted the app. Too many problems with it and the new design is unintelligible.

I've really tried but I can't customize the new #metserviceapp to the settings I need. I think I need a meteorologist to show me how. #fail

.@MetService I'm glad it's not just me who hates the update. Time to find a new app to use pic.twitter.com/Pbz8IFHtJJ
