Critter of the Week Sand Scarab Beetle/Pericoptus truncatus
It's critter of the week time! Nicola Toki, Doc's Threatened Species Ambassador introduces us to the amazing sand scarab beetle/pericoptus truncatus. The nomads of the beach, this critter is constantly moving back and forth across the sand with the tide as it specifically needs to be in sand that has 9-20% water content or it will saturate or dessicate - larvae have wolverine-like claws that they use like oars to essentially swim across the sand.
