New Zealand's forgotten depression: The Long Depression

From Afternoons, 3:25 pm on 30 April 2020

Many commentators have made comparisons between NZ's current economic dilemma and the Great Depression of 1929-1935.

But New Zealand has actually experienced two major depressions.

The first, the 'Long Depression' occurred during the 1880's and had important similarities and differences to the Great Depression and the 2020 crisis.

Today historian Dr Grant Morris from Victoria University explores this forgotten depression and looks for lessons to help us with the current crisis.
