Singer-songwriter Hollie Fullbrook takes inspiration from the Manukau Harbour on the upcoming Tiny Ruins album Ceremony.
She chats to Jesse Mulligan about the album and performs 'Dorothy Bay' - a new song inspired by the beach where she walks her two dogs.
Although Hollie began writing the lyrics for the songs that became Ceremony several years ago, she didnt put them to music until the Covid-19 pandemic.
"When lockdown hit and we were stuck here, I finally opened up these notes files and started putting them together with music.
"I look myself off to Raglan for a few days and stayed in an old train carriage. Just kind of shut the door and didnt come out except to heat up pizza."
All of the songs are set around the Manukau Harbour where Hollie lives, amidst the changing tides and forces of nature.
An earlier single from the album 'The Crab / Water Baby', was inspired by discovering a crab upside down on the sand as the tide went out.
"I came across this crab and I had this little conversation in my head," she tells Jesse Mulligan.
