When Helen Lehndorf forages along paths in parks in the city, or in the wild spaces of the Manawatu, she gets some greens for her dinner, and solace for her soul. She's been foraging since she was a child, connecting what we eat with how we feel for most of her life. For her, being able to feed herself is empowering. That took on special meaning when she had her second son was diagnosed with autism. Too often, she says, she felt like the world rejected her son. Taking time to forage, to be in nature, gave her respite and connection. She shares her personal story as well as recipes and foraging tips in her memoir, A Forager's Life.
