Gorillaz is unique in that it is not the collaboration of a group of musicians, but of a single musician and an artist.
Damon Albarn of Blur fame conceived of the "virtual band" with illustrator Jamie Hewlett in the late 90s, with four animated characters representing the band in music videos and promotional material.
Since 2001 they've released 8 studio albums, a string of iconic singles, and worked with a vast array of collaborators -
everyone from Elton John and Stevie Nicks to De La Soul and Snoop Dogg.
