The cost of a visit to the dentist was a big point of contention during the election campaign this year.
But over the next couple of weekends a community-led initiative in Porirua is taking the reigns from politicians and having a crack at offering free dental care themselves.
It's been spearheaded in the community network Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou and project leads Anita Taggart and Jodi Watene.
