October 21st was World Reptile Day – a day to celebrate and educate people about reptiles and draw attention to the growing number of endangered wild reptiles worldwide.
To celebrate World Reptile Day, we're talking about the elusive and cryptic Moko-pāpā Waitaha gecko, Woodworthia cf. brunnea. Waitaha geckos have complex olive-grey patterns on their backs, which help them blend perfectly into their rocky and lichen-covered habitats.
