What happened to electric cars?

Global sales have slowed, and recently prices for new EVs have been slashed again and again after sales fell off a cliff at the start of the year.

Only a few years ago a world where the streets were filled with the whirr of EVs seemed right on our doorstep. 

Now in 2024 the industry seems stuck in neutral by comparison.  

The end of the government's rebate scheme has a part to play ... but what else is putting the brakes on what is a important tool in reducing emissions?
