US Marines in Kapiti
70 years ago, there was a friendly invasion of New Zealand by US Marines, 15,000 of them. Locals called it the "occupation", and they were stationed at camps around in the Kapiti Coast and Wellington Regions between 1942 and 1944. This weekend six former Marines are returning to the Kapiti Coast to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the "occupation". Jim talks to Anthony Dreaver, a local historian and member of the Kapiti U.S. Marines Trust.
