Your place - Gladstone

This place was named for the British Prime Minister at the time of its settlement. At one point it was expected to grow to rival Masterton but its location at the confluence of the Ruamahanga and Tauweru Rivers limited its potential. In fact the first building of any signifcance in the area was an hotel which doubled as the ferryman's quarters.
