Operation Jericho

From Afternoons, 2:09 pm on 18 February 2014

Seventy years ago today, a group of young pilots took off on a daring bombing raid in a bid to help free prisoners of war in Amiens, France. Leading the charge was a young Kiwi pilot named Merv Darrall, who'd joined the RNZAF at 22 and had become skilled at low-level precision attacks in his de Havilland Mosquito. The raid was called 'Operation Jericho' and it became known as one of the most epic aviation feats of World War Two.
