Critter of the Week: The elephant weevil
The Elephant weevil, Rhynchodes ursus, is a stumpy little insect covered in velvety-orange fuzz that uses its bulbous rostrum (snout) to lay eggs in native trees. Although the weevil larvae spend their lives tunnelling inside decaying trees, they're not safe from predators - one native parasitic wasp uses elephant weevil larvae as nurseries for its babies.
