Artists on an Island

Matiu Somes: The Next Chapter is an exhibition showcasing the works of artists from around New Zealand who took part in a weekend residency on Matiu/Somes Scientific and Historic Reserve earlier this year.

Prior to the mid-1990s the public had no access to the area which served as a human and animal quarantine station, an internment camp, and a military defence position, where today the island is now home to some of New Zealand's rarer native species.
