In the penultimate show this year, Simon Morris introduces a typical trio of films – one blockbuster, one small film aimed at an older audience, and one award-winning art film – from Mexico this time.
Mortal engines from Weta is based on a series of “Steampunk” fantasy novels, featuring giant cities on wheels. Produced by Sir Peter Jackson, directed by Christian Rivers.
Rose is an independent American film about a retired cop – Cybill Shepherd – on a road trip through New Mexico in a motorized wheelchair. Co-stars James Brolin and Pam Grier.
And winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Roma is a hot favourite to do well at the upcoming Oscars. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity, Children of Men).
