Lawyer denies sexual assault claim made in Labour panel meeting

From Checkpoint, 5:08 pm on 16 September 2019

It has turned into a case of "he said, she said" with accusations that core statements made by the key complainant in the Labour Party alleged sexual assault  are "untrue".

Lawyer Simon Mitchell was one of the three Labour members on a committee set up to investigate the behaviour of one party member toward others.

In a statement released by his lawyers Mr Mitchell maintains there was no sexual assault complaint made to him; either written or verbal. And any suggestion that he received any such complaint via email - is  quote "not credible".

Two complainants - including a woman known publicly as Sarah - say they told the committee about sexual assault allegations.

And Sarah also told thespinoff.co.nz that she emailed the complaints committee stressing the seriousness of the situation and referencing the alleged sexual assault.

Simon Mitchell is now the second person from Labour's investigating panel to contradict those claims.
