The Speaker has banned parties from publishing attack ads featuring edited footage from speeches in Parliament, after several have been published by National.
Trevor Mallard has given National a deadline of 5pm Friday to pull the ads that feature clips of Labour MPs.
The Labour Party junior whip, Kieran McAnulty, sent the speaker a letter, complaining about the footage being used without the permission of MPs, and displaying what he called a misleading account of proceedings.
But National's Gerry Brownlee says the Speaker and Labour are overstretching their powers, and says National is not ruling out a legal challenge.
