Few schools sign up to govt offer with scrapping donations

From Checkpoint, 5:35 pm on 8 October 2019

Only a third of schools so far have signed on to the government's offer to compensate them for scrapping school donations.

The government has budgeted more than $75 million a year to pay $150 per child for less well off schools that agree not to ask families for donations.

And while one principal says he's surprised more schools haven't signed up, the Ministry of Education say they're expecting the number to rise after when they return from October holidays.
