Less than a third of sexual violence cases reported to the police make it to court - according to a new report released by the Ministry of Justice.
The figures - based on tens of thousands of cases over a four year period - also showed just a tenth ended with a conviction - and even fewer resulted in prison.
The government and advocacy groups say while progress is being made to improve the culpability of sexual violence offenders, a lot more work needs to be done.
RNZ political reporter Charlie Dreaver has the story.
