Broadcasting Minister discusses future of public media
Cabinet has approved a business case to see whether the government's idea of creating a new, super-sized public broadcaster is viable. After months of speculation, Broadcasting Minister Kris Faafoi made the annnouncement at the New Zealand Broadcasting School in Christchurch. He says public media is vital to democracy and national identity, and in the face of unprecedented challeges, the proposed new entity would help future proof this for generations to come. But Mr Faafoi says the future of RNZ and TVNZ won't be decided until the business case is completed. RNZ political reporter Yvette McCullough has more.
