RNZ's chief executive Paul Thompson and board chair Dr Jim Mather faced intense questioning by MPs this morning after a week of controversy.
RNZ announced last week Concert FM would move off FM and become fully automated on an AM frequency to make way for a new youth radio station.
Consultation with 18 RNZ Concert staff was underway - they believed they were going to be losing their jobs.
But the government came out strongly against this, saying it had asked RNZ to wait to see if a spare frequency, which was sitting unused at the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, could be freed up.
