Doctors are pleading with people who suspect they may have coronavirus to stay home and seek help over the phone rather than visiting medical centres.
An Auckland woman who has COVID-19 tested positive for the disease on Tuesday night after getting a swab from her GP.
She had walked into the clinic and did not call ahead.
Doctors say they will have to close entire clinics if people infect them or their staff and rural doctors are preparing to treat people in their cars to limit any possible spread of the illness.
