The government has unveiled its biggest economic plan in New Zealand's post-war history to support businesses hard-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The $12.1 billion package, which represents four percent of GDP, is more than all of the government's new operating spending across three Budgets combined.

It includes wage subsidies of $5.1 billion. This means $585 for full time staff and $350 for part-time staff capped at $150,000 per business.

There's $500 set aside million for health and $126 million for a self isolation support package.

Winter energy payments will be doubled.

Westpac chief economist Dominick Stephens, First Union's Tali Williams and business consultant Phil O'Reilly join Lisa Owen to discuss the relief package.
