A recent surge of cars and trucks on the roads has provided a much needed boost for towns who rely on travellers stopping to shop.
Data from the Transport Agency show a four-fold increase in heavy vehicle travel in Wellington as the country exited in Level 4 lockdown last week. Other centres also saw large jumps.
