Red Fox Tavern trial drawing to a close

From Checkpoint, 6:09 pm on 22 March 2021

The trial of two men charged over the Red Fox Tavern shooting and robbery more than 30 years ago is drawing to a close.

The Crown says a web of circumstantial evidence points to them being responsible.

Father of two Chris Bush was gunned down at the pub in Maramarua in October 1987 and the offenders fled with tens of thousands of dollars in cash, coins and cheques.

Mark Hoggart and another man with name suppression are charged with murder and aggravated robbery, but deny any involvement in the crime and say the police arrested the wrong men.

Our reporter Sarah Robson has been covering the case in the High Court at Auckland and filed this story.
