Covid-19 vaccine rest home rollout likened to postcode lottery

From Checkpoint, 5:18 pm on 5 July 2021

The vaccine rollout in rest homes has been likened to a postcode lottery, with residents in Nelson/Marlborough already fully vaccinated whilst others in Waitematā are only just receiving their first jabs despite all being in group 2.

Continued delays over vaccine delivery in some areas has also led to residents missing out on a flu shot while they wait.

And as Louise Ternouth reports, those working in the industry say it is not good enough.

Update: In response to this report, the Northern Region Health Coordination Centre which oversees the vaccine rollout said the rollout to rest homes in the Waitematā DHB has finished.

"The first doses for all rest homes (181) across the Auckland metro DHBs were completed about two weeks ago and second doses will be completed in the next couple of weeks."
