The government has announced Auckland will drop to Covid-19 alert level three from midnight Wednesday morning.
It will remain in those tight restrictions for at least two weeks.
The decision will be reviewed on October 4 - at the start of the school holidays.
For the rest of Aotearoa it is staying at level 2, but Indoor gatherings will be up-sized from 50 to 100 people.
The outbreak has spread beyond Auckland in the last 24 hours, and an area in the Hauraki Plains will come under level 4 restrictions, in an attempt to ring-fence those cases.
