The National Party wants to open up the country with a plan it says will allow New Zealanders to return home for Christmas.
The party has released a three-step plan to open the borders and stop future lockdowns, which it says will clear the MIQ backlog, keep Covid-19 cases to a minimum and make it easier for people to travel to and from New Zealand.
But as political reporter Charlie Dreaver reports, the government warns National's plan would lead to New Zealanders spreading a lot more than joy this festive season.
