A Dunedin couple has developed an ice cream range for dogs.
Scoop Dog inventor Aleisha Kennedy came up with the idea after she and her husband Jono kept being told off by the vet for feeding human food to their three chubby dogs Rufus, Puppy and Maple.
The Kennedys created a base recipe similar to human ice cream with a New Zealand food producer, then customised it to be as natural and healthy for dogs as possible.
Cows milk is hard for dogs to digest so Scoop Dog ice cream is made with goats milk, honey, 2 other ingredients and flavour.
The five flavours are Bacon (the biggest seller), Banana, Vanilla, Carob and Gingerbread (for Christmas). Aleisha says they've also had requests for flavours like roadkill.
Scoop Dog ice cream is sold as packaged dry ingredients you mix with water at home then freeze in the tub.
