It's the expensive train trial that's totally off the rails according to a new report. Less than a year since its launch, the Hamilton to Auckland train Te Huia is facing a damning review from the Waikato Chamber of Commerce.
It claims the train is using an "extravagant" amount of government funding to keep running; with taxpayers subsidising each passenger to the tune of $282, based on the number of travellers onboard in 2021.
