Aotearoa moves to Omicron Phase 3 at 11.59pm tonight after daily cases cracked more than 6000 today.
That means only Covid cases and their household contacts have to isolate and RATs are rampant.
Covid-19 Minister Chris Hipkins says the rule for New Zealanders arriving from Australia having to isolate is under review.
"We're expecting some advice from David Skegg and his group who have been giving us advice on restrictions at the border. We're expecting that within the next week or so."
He said that decision will not be made in time for the first arrivals on Monday.
"We've got it under review. We are looking very closely at that. I think it is likely to change."
