Researchers are calling for better pandemic planning in hospitals to support bereaved people after a study released today revealed the extreme grief experienced by families separated during last year's level 3 and 4 lockdowns.
The NZ Medical Journal surveyed the next of kin of 22 patients who died at Wellington hospital between March 22 and April 27 2020.
Most raised concerns about their loved ones dying alone, delays in Covid-19 screening and the impact of severely restricted access for visitors.
