Govt to extend apprenticeship subsidy, but at a lower rate

The government is extending the amount of time it will subsidise apprenticeships - but it's cutting the rate of the subsidy.

A $230 million investment from this year's Budget will support 38,000 apprentices.

The scheme was set up in 2020 to support businesses to hire and retain apprentices during the pandemic. It was set to expire in August, but has now been extended until the end of next year.

That means 24,000 new apprentices and 14,000 existing apprentices can get the support.
