"When in God's name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?" The words of an exasperated and angry US President Joe Biden, after as many as 19 children aged between seven and 10 years old and two adults were killed at a primary school in Texas.
An 18-year-old gunman opened fire in the school, before being killed by officers. Investigators say he was armed with a handgun and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the shooter, Salvador Ramos, abandoned a vehicle before entering the school to "horrifically, incomprehensibly" open fire.
One of the adults killed was a teacher. Anguished parents arrived at the school desperate to get to their children.
