Wild weather hits Wellington, region braces for more

From Checkpoint, 5:12 pm on 9 June 2022

The Wellington region's in the brace position with bad weather hammering the area.

One person needed medical treatment for minor injuries after what's believed to be a tornado hit the Kāpiti Coast - the second in a matter of weeks.

Several houses in Waikanae and in Paraparaumu have been damaged. And more than 400 homes lost power in Upper Hutt.

As the wild weather hit, a substantial part of a Norfolk pine came toppling through the roof of a Waikanae workshop on Omahi St.

At about the same time worker Gordon Cameron was brewing a coffee.
