A spring Antarctic blast has broken all sorts of records and left much of the country feeling unseasonably chilly.
It was -3C at Wanaka Airport - the coldest October day since 1992. Beaches in Christchurch also got a rare blast and the situation was so treacherous in Dunedin, people were told to stay inside.
