Striking primary healthcare nurses struggling to pay bills

From Checkpoint, 5:07 pm on 27 October 2022

They're 'struggling to pay their bills, put food on the table, pay for childcare and meet mortgage payments.'

That was the message from 4000 primary healthcare and plunket nurses across the country who took to the streets today in their fight to be paid the same wage as their hospital counterparts who earn between 10 and 20 percent more.

Today's strike comes after the union rejected the government's latest offer of a 2.7 percent increase for primary healthcare nurses, and a 3 percent increase for Plunket nurses.

And as our reporter Lucy Xia reports, as the cost of living soars, many say they're struggling to survive.
