Aucklanders are putting a lot of the wrong stuff in their recycling bins, ranging from a samurai sword to prosthetic body parts.
This so-called "bin contamination" has doubled over the last three years to make up over 20 percent of total waste, according to the Auckland Council.
Recycling bins in public spaces are even worse, often 80 percent full of improper contents.
Auckland Council's general manager of waste solutions Parul Sood (who has a household of eight) only puts her recycling bin out every three weeks or so.
She selflessly volunteers to go through Checkpoint trash with Lisa Owen.
